15th ANNUAL
NEWPORT LIBERTY HALF MARATHON
2008 USATF-NJ Championship
 


THE EVENT

For the 15th consecutive year, runners will converge on Jersey City to compete in the Newport Liberty Half Marathon. Over 1200 runners will vie for prize money and awards in the half marathon which serves as the USATF-NJ Championship for open and masters, men and women.

The Half Marathon course offers breathtaking views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and the Manhattan skyline. Amenities include mile clocks, water and energy drink stations, the Newport Liberty Half t-shirt, refreshments, a DJ and random prizes.

Directions to the race site start at Newport Town Square are easy to follow and parking is free. Registration will be held at the Newport Swim and Fitness Club.

DIRECTIONS:

NYC Residents and All Other Runners Near a PATH Station: Save time and trouble take the PATH train to the Pavonia/Newport station. Exit onto Town Square Place and walk east through Newport Town Square to River Drive South. Turn LEFT onto River Drive South and follow signs to Newport Swim and Fitness, 33 River Drive South (on your left).

From NYC/Holland Tunnel: Take the Holland Tunnel into New Jersey; stay in far LEFT lane and go to 4th traffic light, following "Holland Tunnel and Local" signs. At 4th traffic light ("Left Lane Must Turn Left;" Sunoco Station on far right; DO NOT take ramp to Route 1-9, Turnpike), make LEFT onto Jersey Ave. Continue straight through traffic light (12th St.). Immediately bear LEFT onto 11th St. Viaduct, which becomes Newport Parkway. DO NOT take "Newport Centre Mall Parking" exit ramp. Continue straight down viaduct, past "Mall Drive East," and enter 6-story parking garage on your RIGHT, just before Light Rail overpass.

From Route 3 or Lincoln Tunnel: Exit onto Route 1&9 South (Tonnelle Ave.). Follow signs to Holland Tunnel/Newport. Make RIGHT at light onto Jersey Ave. and immediately bear LEFT onto 11th St. Viaduct, which becomes Newport Parkway. DO NOT take "Newport Centre Mall Parking" exit ramp. Continue straight down viaduct, past "Mall Drive East," and enter 6-story parking garage on your RIGHT, just before Light Rail overpass.

From I-78 or NJ Turnpike: Take NJ Turnpike to Exit 14C - Holland Tunnel. After going through the exit 14C tollbooth. DO NOT TAKE the "Liberty State Park" or "Jersey City-Columbus Drive" exits. Continue straight for "Holland Tunnel." At first traffic light at bottom of ramp, turn RIGHT onto Jersey Ave. Immediately bear LEFT onto 11th St. Viaduct, which becomes Newport Parkway. DO NOT take "Newport Centre Mall Parking" exit ramp. Continue straight down viaduct, past "Mall Drive East," and enter 6-story parking garage on your RIGHT, just before Light Rail overpass.

From Routes 1 & 9 (Pulaski Skyway): Proceed east on Pulaski Skyway toward the Holland Tunnel. Follow Route 3 directions above.

FROM PARKING DECK TO REGISTRATION/PACKET PICK-UP: Exit parking garage onto Newport Parkway (where you entered); walk east on Newport Parkway (cross Washington Blvd.) to River Drive South. Turn RIGHT on River Drive South and follow signs to Newport Swim & Fitness, 33 River Drive South (on your right). FOLLOW RACE SITE SIGNS.
